Glum Dee Dum

Around about early October I start getting depressed thinking that winter is coming.  Really, a bit of apprehension about the whole season change starts in mid August.  Okay, to be honest, right after the 4th of July.

Then, right after the holidays, as in Christmas and New Years, I feel like we have rounded the corner and we're heading out of winter.... it's almost over.... Spring is coming!

About the end of February all hope is lost. It seems as if it is never going to end.  There is still snow on the ground.  Any ground that peeks through is brown grass or darker brown mud.  If it's warm enough for rain it's COLD rain and then it freezes overnight.  The ten day forecast keeps showing cold and wet and cloudy.

Gloom.   Gloom.   Gloom.

But wait.  What's that I see?

And Daylight Savings Time changes in less than three weeks!  Maybe Spring really will come this year.

I noticed on Friday that it was 6pm and still light outside. It gave me great hope for spring. Of course, spring (and fall) does not last long here. We'll probably have our a/c running like a maniac in 2 months.

Wow, we have the same thoughts when it comes to winter. Thanks for sharing your little reminder that spring is coming!

Our spring flower bulbs were up about 4 inches BEFORE all the big snows hit our area...and the snow is still covering them. I hope they will survive and flower nicely as we all NEED spring this year...that's for sure. *sigh*

Aww, I must be the only one out there wishing for one more snow storm! Must get the last bit of snowboarding in before the gorgeous snow turns to slicky ice...(ugh thaw/freeze). Oh well, spring will be here soon enough I suppose, then the golf clubs will be out!

Have a great one! :o)

Here's one difference that we have...I love winter and dread the coming of spring and warmer weather! I love the coziness of winter, the quiet days and nights, the bright snow. Even the short daylight hours are comforting to me. Goofy, huh? I think most of this is because I live in an urban, noisy neighborhood and know that warmer weather means lots of noise and the end of any peace and quiet.
Oh well. The good thing is that all of the seasons have their wonderful qualities and beauty abounds around every corner!
Happy Spring!

Oh Kathleen, my thoughts exactly when I lived there. I remember that seeing a certain plant come up in August brought home that WINTER was coming. AND then it did and did til I wondered was I going to make it. Two of my tricks to get thru were: on a sunny day, I would sit in the tub upstairs under the skylight or outside in a protected corner of the yard in the sunshine. I had forgotten those feelings and survival tools. It was so interesting to read others comments. Love, Pat

I like winter. Like Jeanie, I like the peace and quiet, and since I hate yard work, I enjoy not having any to do. But I do like more daylight, and am enjoying that, especially in the morning. But in this area the coming of DST puts us back to December in terms of morning light. HATE that! Life is a mixed bag, for sure.

Hmmm. It must be something about Indiana.... maybe if I just move to my right a bit I'll like winter too!

Wow, flowers already. I would have no idea if anything is coming up here because we got a new batch of snow over the weekend, talk about cabin fever!
